Hardware Store Show!!!

Good work from the fact finding crew that went to the Hardware Store. How cool will that be to connect to another local business and use your work to support them. The project is still due on February 17th. We need to get on to the next project. We will start talking about it on Monday.
Have a great weekend. Be safe!

  1. yeah- KC was really open to everything we threw at him. there's local business for ya. My boyfriend sometimes plays with this local band who is really cool and usually plays a lot of free benefits around town, and I talked to the main girl and she would be stoked to play at artwalk and even get paid at all. They're really good. I think someone said something about a band before..? maybe joe. Just a suggestion if we need one. I don't think we mentioned to KC about a band, though? He'd probably be okay with it as he said he would bring the beers. haha. This is way cooler than the studio-i'm stoked.

  2. Hey let's lock one of these bands down for the exhibit. That way we can give them plenty of lead time and if they/we want to do something conceptually interesting for them for the opening they/we can.

  3. I vote yes for Denise's boyfriend and his band for the music!

Also, KC said he doesn't have any t-shirts or aprons with his store's name on it so I think it would be really nice if we all wore something to promote his store during Art Walk. Can't you get really cheapo fake hardhats? And then we could write the store's name on them? Because we're artists? Right?

  4. I thought we were wearing wood grain suits?
I like the harhat idea. Is anyone in design or screen printing classes.? I think we should adopt this store and present him with some really creative marketing materials; shirts, hats, etc, fliers, facebook page etc that will be useful in getting people to your exhibit but also leave him with tools to grow his customer base. This is big for him if you can connect him to young college students who will buy stuff from him that they normally would get at big box stores; tape, light bulbs, picture hangers etc. etc.
    Thanks Julia

  5. That's actually a really good idea. There isn't a printmaking class this semester—at least I don't think—because Don Martin is on sabbatical but I know some people who can screen print, if we want to do it ourselves. We'd have to get permission to use the screen stuff in the printmaking studio. . .
There are also local places that could do it. Denise's boyfriends band gets my vote too. And about what to wear, we could just wear the t-shirts we make/have made and fake plastic hard hats, and eye patches (shiver me timbers). . .ahhh yea.

  6. Joe and I were in Don's screen printing class last semester and he said we were allowed, even encouraged, to use the screen printing stuff... as long as you know what how to.

  7. Hey guys,
Just wanted to let you know that I emailed Folio, Drift, and The Record just to let them know about the exciting collaborative shows we're doing with local businesses (made it sound really good..) I just sent them, so I haven't heard anything back, but I'll let you know if I do.

Also, the band is totally on board. (aye aye!)

  8. Has anyone talked to KC since we met with him? I feel like we should send him pictures of what we're doing/ keep him updated so we don't re-bombard him in April? Maybe I'll take pictures in class next week and shoot him an email. Do you have his address, Joe?

  10. good show denise! have you heard anything back from any of them yet? And as for not contacting KC, maybe the same group (plus anyone else who wants to check out the space) could go again sometime this week? we had a bunch of thoughts for how the pieces could be displayed, either in the window or throughout the store, or in one location in the store. it depends on what everyone thinks is best

  11. Julia, I think that is a really good idea to send KC some pictures of in progress/almost finished/ finished work to show him what he got himself into and maybe pimp it to his regular customers. If we get him excited about it he's bound to tell more people!

  12. So I went to the hardware store last friday to pick up some stuff and spoke with KC again. He said he'd just talked to you Mike. He still seemed really excited, but he'd been wondering what was going on. I talked to him for a bit, but couldn't give a whole lot of concrete answers.
